Though we’re tucked in the North Hills just on the edge of town, arriving to the Homestead via Spurlock Road or the North Hills Trails System can feel like a portal into a rural place and a slower time.

PARKING for OPEN HOURS and small events

Visitors are welcome to drive all the way to the site. Once on Spurlock Road, stay right at the fork and low in the draw. At the welcome sign, you’ll come to a green gate. Open the green gate by lifting the chain. Be sure to close it behind you—this is our neighbor’s gate and keeping it closed helps us maintain a good relationship with them. Continue following the gravel lane until the site opens up and the road begins to loop around. Park just off or alongside the road, ensuring a vehicle can pass you.

PARKING at the FALL GATHERING

We encourage folks to walk or bike to this event (see below)! Follow signage and parallel park OFF the SOUTH side of the Spurlock Road BELOW where the road forks. Leave space on the road to allow for an emergency vehicle to pass. Then walk the to the site along the gravel road (1/4 to 1 mile—depending on how early you arrive) or take a shuttle van (available from 5pm till it gets dark). Elderly and pregnant folks, and those with disabilities, may continue beyond the fork to a grass parking area about 100 yards from the main event. The event is in a mowed pasture—you can expect to be outdoors and on uneven terrain. Please contact us if you would like more information!

BIKE

Many visitors bike to the site, which is accessible via Spurlock Road. Once on Spurlock Road, stay right at the fork and low in the draw. At the welcome sign, open our neighbor’s green gate by lifting the chain, then close it behind you to help us maintain a good relationship with them. Note that biking is prohibited on the North Hills Trails System. If you come for an evening event, don’t forget to bring a light for the ride back!

HIKE

Perhaps the most magical approach is on foot. Visitors can hike to the Moon-Randolph Homestead through the City of Missoula’s North Hills Open Space from one of four trailheads, see map below. Distances range from 1.5 - 2 miles. During the summer, be advised that there is little shade on these grassland trails and no potable water at the homestead.
