  • Moon-Randolph Homestead 1515 Spurlock Road Missoula, MT, 59802 United States (map)

At our annual Prune-the-Moon workshop, learn the meditative art of pruning old apple trees in the Moon-Randolph Orchard. This workshop will equip beginners with the knowledge necessary to maintain pruning tools, observe fruit tree growth patterns, prioritize pruning strategies unique to each tree, and make effective pruning cuts.

SIGN UP NOW!

Workshop starts at 2p.m. with a large group orientation, followed by hands-on pruning in small groups, and food! $20-30 suggested donation per adult. Children are free.

In the late 1800s and early 1900s, the Missoula and the Bitteroot Valleys produced a huge amount of apples. Many of those heritage trees remain in yards and gardens throughout the area... just waiting for a patient hand to steward them back to health.

Be sure to wear gloves and appropriate clothing for cold and wet spring weather. Don't forget drinking water and the desire to get to know a tree. For those with pruning equipment, bring along handsaws, pole saws, loppers, hand shears, sharpening stones, files, and orchard ladders, etc. There will be plenty of tools for the empty-handed.

No dogs please.
